The Nearness
About
From Church Music magazine 'If the bridge section of Alleluia, Sing was a whispered hint of a certain sound that would permeate much of the Church Music album, The Nearness is the blatant embodiment of it. From the outset the song is driven by a melody played not on a guitar, but on a synthesizer that could very well be found on numerous DanceNow CDs ordered off of rambunctious late night television commercials. The open high hats generously placed on the upbeats confirm this suspected influence quickly. The bass and programming refuse to take a back seat, rather, they establish the foundation on which the entire song is constructed. This is also the first instance of a special guest on the record (Flyleaf’s Lacey Mosley) helping the band capture the blur between here and there. It is mysterious, this is sure.' |
