meanwhile, in the studio, shane and i did some editing on “rain down” and “can you feel it”. we’re still having trouble making the chorus to “rain down” hit like we want it to, but the verses and turns are a fist to the head (i have no idea what a fist to the head feels like, in a literal sense. this is a term recently aquired from a barn guest). also, hogan finished up violin today, we think. i still need to start singing.
there is a disco party tomorrow at our church, ubc. it’s a fund raiser the orphange our church helps sponsor in africa. the rest of the band guys rehearsed this afternoon with our good friend tye. he’s a star. all i’m saying is saturday night is for laying down the funk.
meanwhile, in the studio, shane and i did some editing on “rain down” and “can you feel it”. we’re still having trouble making the chorus to “rain down” hit like we want it to, but the verses and turns are a fist to the head (i have no idea what a fist to the head feels like, in a literal sense. this is a term recently aquired from a barn guest). also, hogan finished up violin today, we think. i still need to start singing. it seems there was some confusion as to whether or whether not THE NUGE came by the barn. so to quell the furor, yes, THE NUGE did in fact stop by to play on the recording. we have included a “clip of the day” for each day of the recording. simply go here to observe THE NUGE in his natural habitat. click the “clip of the day”.
today i recorded acoustics for “everything glorious” and mike d worked on piano for “never let go” and “oh the glory of it all.” hogan put down a part for “rain down” that is just monstrous. it is huge i say! i need to get vocals going. still not quite there. i’ve been taking musinex nonstop today, well, at least just barely over the recommended dosage. not sure if it’s helping. so today was pretty non-eventful. the nuge did not stop by. so today was pretty much a let down.
oh, however, we may or may not have finished electric guitars. that’s pretty fantastic. of course we’ll be paying attention to where the gaps are and then filling them in but we’re done with the bulk of them anyway. but yeah, the nuge didn’t stop by. but shane did order this for dinner which is pretty fantastic as well: no freaking way! ted nugent, aka: the nuge, terrible ted, deadly tedly, theodocious atrocious, uncle ted, sweaty teddy, great gonzos, the motor city madman, the nuge, wait i said that, anyway, he’s coming to the barn again. this time he’s bringing his guitar. he’ll have his bow (as in bow and arrows) with him too but he told us he never leaves home with out that, but yes, he’s bring a guitar. his backup songbird is what he told me on the phone. sometime this afternoon, like 3 or 4. we’re going to have him play on “we won’t be quiet.” yes, the one that already has one bar of harmony lead guitars. this is too good. “we won’t be quiet” featuring the nuge. when we asked him if he’d play on a tune he said, and i quote, “sure. you guys pick out the vehicle and i’ll come over and turn it into a four wheel drive.” might be a great opportunity for some monumental screen grabs.
wow. alot was accomplished today. jeremy may/or may not be finished with his drums. that’s just crazy talk! but yes, he has now tracked all of his parts. he will now move on to editing what he’s played. well actually, mark (shane’s assistant) has been locked in his hotel room since monday or tuesday, he is turning pale from lack of sunlight, editing everything (as in, lining things up, making sure the ups and downs are where they need to be.) and now jeremy will be editing away making them extra special. if there is anything additional needed we’ll go back and grab it but yes, drums may be finished at this point.
oh, and, the first thing that happened this morning was taylor (aka the kid) tracked his guitar parts on the title track, “remedy.” oh my word! i’m flipping out. they are so epic. after dinner, mike d dumped the bass stuff he had been messing with for “rain down” so guitars can track to it. then taylor and jack started on “we won’t be quiet.” it’s this big cbgb rocker type bit. an ode to the resplendent club that is no longer. well except in vegas, we think. the one bit of lameness is that some ungodly mass of phlegm has taken up residence in my head and throat. i’m not sure if it’s just alergies or what but we were no longer playing at ubc in the morning due to it. lame. hopefully this heap of foulness will move on before it is time for vocals. but yes, it is fact, that currently, a bar of harmony lead guitars happen in “we won’t be quiet.” this morning i started on acoustics. tracked “oh the glory of it all” and “o for a thousand tongues”. so fun. so on “glory of it all” i used the olson and the taylor 514c. on “o for a thousand tongues” i used the gibson j45 and the taylor 514c.
we went to lunch today at buzzard billy’s. first, this is premier waco experience. amazing. but here’s the thing: about 1/3 through our meal, guess who walks in? yes. it is truth. the motor city mad man. the glorious ted nugent. he too calls waco home. we said hello. it was his first time to behold the rest of the guys in the band. here is a direct quote: “funny. i wasn’t expecting so many caucasians. you don’t sound caucasian.” and also, “yeah man. i’ll get ahold of you guys just as soon as my guitars stop breeding.” we don’t have any idea what that means but it all added up to the greatest lunch ever. seriously. now back to guitars, terrible ted inspired!
1:36 pm: Bass Guitar ok question. mike d is laying down the bass for “can you feel it.” it’s going fantastic. but we’re wondering whether we should use the qtron by itself in the verses or the qtron and the big muff together. or… what say ye!? 3:25 pm: yes! thank you kind people. and so therefore, we go with the big muff and the qtron together and yes it sounds immense! so keep that in mind. in “can you feel it” the bass tone is the big muff with the qtron. party people commence to jiggling. happiness. 5:12 pm: lunch (we are recording a new ablum. this xanga is my humble attempt to keep you up to date with the progress.) i have to show you this. we went to eat lunch today at george’s. shane found an item on the menu that intrigued him. it was potato oriented. yet he remained undecided. so he asked the waiter. shane asked, “so what’s good here?” the waiter responded, “any of the potatos. the potatos are good.” now before you go deciding that shane is quite the daity, the potato in question was named “el nino.” the description is as follows: “1lb potato loaded with chicken fried steak topped with cream gravy & chedder cheese.” yes. waco texas coming strong. this is where we live. a place where someone, possibly named george, sits around thinking, “huh. now what would be good on this potato. i know. a chicken fried steak.” before shane’s attempt at consumption: after shane’s attempt at consumption: all to say, the waiter always knows best.
shane. so yeah. that’s shane. he’s having a good day. it being the first full day and all. you can tell this just by the look he is giving my camera phone.
so here’s what’s happened so far: 1. i ate donuts from a bag. 2. toni and i took our car in to the shop to have the windshield washer fluid reservoir replaced and the oil changed. 3. jeremy finished tracking drums for “can you feel it”. (at least that’s what i think it will be called. who knows. things change. but for now, that is what we call it.) 4. we ate lunch at uncle dan’s. wow. 5. we went to take back the truck that shane had rented to bring all his gear down. 6. a man with very few teeth told shane that where he had been told to return the van, as printed on his budget rental agreement, was not the place to return the van. 7. shane discovered it was hard to be upset at a man with very few teeth. just because it’s hard to form regular angry thoughts while staring into unexpected absent spaces in someone’s mouth. 8. mark (shane’s assistant) went to his hotel room to edit drums on the first track. 9. painters came to the house and put another clear coat of varnish on the upstairs sleeping porch. (that has nothing to do with the recording but it is no less true.) 10. i hoped aloud that the man with limited denticles did not have internet. 11. jeremy started tracking “o for a thousand tongues to sing”. 12. i said a few things to the effect of: “holy crap!” and “oh my freaking yes!” attempting to indicate that the sound of the drums was large, very large in fact and what was being played pleased me greatly. 13. mark came back from his hotel room with edited drums. 14. i went in the house and drank a milkshake. so that’s pretty much the day thus far. of course some of the previous may be out of order, like it is true that number 8 happened prior to number 5, 6, and 7. and also hogan was here for awhile getting files to work on violin parts. and there is also the part about mike d trying to fix my internet so the cameras are more stable and uploading properly. that part i left out. but the funniest part that i didn’t mention was when jeremy returned from lunch and locked his keys in his car while it was still running. i just felt it inappropriate to mention since it might denote more than typical absent mindedness on his part and that would just be wrong. except that he pointed out that this has happened on 3 other occasions recently, which would negate my previous modifier of his absence of mind. we are now importing mark’s edited “can you feel it” drums. commence to jiggling. |
