David Crowder Band, one of the most sought after bands on college campuses and beyond, continues to receive acclaim for its sophomore recording, Illuminate, which released Sept. 16 and debuted at No. 1 on the SoundScan® Christian Retail chart.
In addition to wide critical acclaim from Christian media, mainstream media are also applauding the album and the band. Lakeland Ledger (Lakeland, FL) entertainment reporter, sr. writer Bill Dean says he sees the “future of music” after he completed a cover feature interview with David Crowder that ran Nov. 14.
“I can't believe what this guy is doing and bringing to music,” said Dean. “I've interviewed Keith Richards [Rolling Stones], Eddie Van Halen, and all sorts of people at the top of their games. While I was talking to David, I really felt like, to paraphrase Jon Landau who once said this about Bruce Springsteen, ‘I am seeing the future of music’...What an amazing guy and what an interesting interview.”
Other mainstream media running recent features and reviews comment on Illuminate and the band: “Crowder’s voice is effortlessly subtle, not overpowering the music nor falling by the wayside…competent production—allowing the band’s true voice to shine through, at times with definite punch—and the musicians’ instinctual musical ability.” – U-WIRE
“Crowder has emerged as one of the best of the current crop of outstanding worship leaders, and his band’s new CD, Illuminate, just might be the best worship album of the year.” – Fort Worth Star-Telegram (Fort Worth, TX), Grade “A” review.
“Poised to be the voice of a generation that’s searching for something more…David Crowder is not your momma’s Christian rocker…” – The News Times (Danbury, CT), “Weekend” section cover story. “The David Crowder Band is not your grandfather’s church music – or your big brother’s for that matter…the band’s two CDs have turned heads among mainstream rock fans. Crowder…is breaking through to that elusive college-age demographic that churches nationwide struggle to reach.” – The Gainesville Sun (Gainesville, FL), “Daybreak” cover story.
Also recognizing the David Crowder Band for its new release, Worship Leader Magazine recently nominated Illuminate as “Best Worship Project” for its third annual 2003 Praise Awards, as well as nominated the album’s fan favorite and current hit radio single, O Praise Him (All This For A King) as “Best New Song.” The band further received a “Best Compilation” Praise Award nod for its contribution to the sixsteps/Sparrow Records CD, Passion: Sacred Revolution – Songs From OneDay03.
In addition to its Award nomination, O Praise Him (All This For A King) continues climbing the radio charts, landing in the Top 10 (No. 7) this week on CRW’s AC chart. The song also captures the No. 24 position on R & R’s AC chart, while further debuting this week at No. 30 on R & R’s CHR chart. “We had to make room for this song. O Praise Him is passionate praise with a smooth, gutsy sound,” says Jim Beeler, KSBJ Radio music director.
