Check the email, or some other internet site? Maybe. Taxes. Thats what needs to be done! A few hours spent organizing receipts from last year leads to the making of a spreadsheet that may or may not help when April comes around. But it had passed the time. It actually passed the time for a couple of days, which in a slow week can seem the equivalent of winning the scratch game from the state lottery.
Clean the apartment. Wait, the vacuum cleaner is in the trunk of my car. I'll do it later. What to do, what to do, to do to do to do to do to do....
Got it. Dodson had loaned his copy of the first season of 24. This will be my mission. A full season of television in one week. It can be done.
So it begins. One episode after another. Without the commercials each show lasts roughly 40 minutes. This makes it easy to knock out 3 episodes with same feeling of having rented a movie. 6 episodes constitute a double feature and the accomplishment of finishing an entire DVD and a half. 6 DVDs in the set, each with four episodes. It can be done.
Does the viewing of an entire season of television make me feel better about myself? Not too sure. But if a couple hours spent readying myself for tax season is like winning a couple of bucks from a scratch off ticket then this is the full blown lottery with the random chance numbers read through plastic smiles from the sequined local model.
But its over all too soon. Mission accomplished. Now what. The website. Thats right, I need to write a news story for the website! Pacing around the apartment usually inspires me, so I do this for a while. Eventually, I sit down and play around on the internet for a while looking for a new screen saver to download. Instead I come across the website for the weekly NPR program This American Life, which tells intriguing stories about, well, stuff. Every program in the past 8 years or so is archived on the site, so I am again faced with a formidable challenge. I spy my prey, get the streaming audio going and hunker down for the real work.
It had been a very slow week. The last news article had been put on the website a little late, but it had some extra bells and whistles...
This was going to be a tough one to write. Absolutely nothing funny or amusing had taken place.
that made it acceptable. But what had happened in the meantime? Not much, really...
Yep, its going to be a tough one all right. It was a slooooow week.
